Hi everyone, so.... our first journal entry - Bangkok was everything everyone said it would be and more (smelly, dirty and very very hot!) but we loved the buzz of khao san Road, the cheap cheap food and definitely the cheap beer at a 1 pound a drink - even beth tried some!!!!! On the first full day there, we saw the grand palace, What Pho (with a huge gold buddha) and Trekked for hours to Lomphini park, where we chilled out watching others exercise instead!! We even had time to pop into the red light district and then back to Khao San for some cheap dinner - noodles from a street vendor!! Overall a great start to the trip! Yesterday saw us make the short trip to Vimanmek mansion. This was where one of the previous kings of Thailand used to live and was very impressive!! It was nice to have an English speaking guide for once!!!! We're now in Chiang Mai after a 10 hour bus ride, where they played some extremely cheesy Thai Power Ballads for most of the trip - thank god for ear plugs! Chang Mai is very different and much less frantic - no where near as many tuk tuk drivers! We embark on a 3 day jungle trek in the north tomorrow which we are very excited about!!
