Almost 4 years since our last adventure and we are off once again to new fields and new adventures.
As has been the case in the past, our departure was not entirely uneventful. Leaving Melbourne, a small oversight in not removing the liquids from one’s handbag caused a delay at security. Then the electronic passport reader didn’t and a manual check ensued. Once on the plane the experience of attempting to eat the meal with a face mask on seemed to suggest a certain lapse of concentration or maybe it was just the excitement of being on our way at last.
On arrival in the UK, the same issue with the passport, this time the reason was put down to a different hair style to that in her passport photo.
But despite all those early warning signs, we made it to Brighton where we were able to prepare ourselves for the upcoming travel by chilling out ( literally) for 3 days at the Brighton seaside.
What can I say about Brighton. It has a vibe reminiscent of London in the ‘60s. Vegan, hippy, and crowded. Admittedly, it was a bank holiday long weekend and the sun was visible for at least 4 hours on Sunday, so hence the crowds.
The beach-front donkey rides were still on holidays, so it was down to walking, and walking and even more walking. Good training for what’s to come.
At the end of 3 days, I’m not sure that the intended purpose of coming here has been met. The hills and uneven footpaths, crowds and kilometres
of aimless wandering have taken their toll on hamstrings, calf muscles and feet. Bring on the camels!
