CRIKEY!!!! Australia Zoo was something we both were very excited about. We were picked up in Brisbane and it turned out the bus driver was a friend of Steve Irwins and was still in touch with Terri and the kids. He shared jokes and old stories and we then go to watch a video on Steves life. We arrived at the zoo and our first stop was the crocoseum (steves pride and joy) this is where the shows are performed. Its a huge stadium. We watched a wildlife show which has snakes and birds and crocs. (although after our time in the northern territory this wasnt very impressive) The keepers were out with some of the animals walking around the zoo so we got to cuddle a wombat (gorgeous) It was quite cool as Rich was wearing his tshirt he bought in Sepilok at the orang utan sanctuary and this attracted a lot of attention from the keepers who all felt strongly about the case and some had even volunteered there. Saw lots more animals, camels, dingoes, tazzie devils, cassowarys, otters, kookaburras, elephants and tigers (3 baby bengals - beautiful) We got to feed more wallabies and kangaroos which is always cool. We also got to feed baby farm animals (piglets, lambs, calves and goats) The goats were a bit cheeky and tried to attach rich lol...this was hilarious. On a sadder note we visited steve irwins memorial in the Croc hunter museum. Was very moving. We both left feeling very inspired and wanting to do more to help the animals of the world. We stoppedin a great fruit shop on the way home which had its own plantations out the back amd we gpt some lovely fresh pineapple and the back on the bus watching croc hunter episodes. Was such a good day. We heard some of the explansion plans and by the sounds of things this zoo in a few years time is going to be amazing. Terri has bought more land and they plan to get in loads more animals so we will definitely come back in a few years to see the differece.
Steve Irwin - Forever an Inspiration.
