Hey so after Uluru we headed on up to Cairns, back to the coast!! First day was really just kicking about before we decided to head up to Cape Tribulation on our second day. It wasnt too bad, was cool to see all the beaches and the Rainforest walk, finding out about the different plants and animals that live in the area, unfortunatly we didnt see any wild Cassowary which there is less than 1000 in Oz and most of them live South of Cairns. We also saw the spot or Island where Steve Irwin was killed (RIP) which was kind of weird, as we didnt expect that and didnt really know where in Oz it had happened, its Steve Irwin day here on the 15th of November. After Cape Trib it was a quiet night in with the TV as we planned to head out to the reef the next day!!
So the next morning we got up early to walk into town to go join our boat to take us out to the reef, we went out with Passions of Paradise, so Laura was a bit worried it would be like Surfers Paradise, but it was nothing like that at all!! Infact it was amazing. First stop was a small island out in the reef, where we got the chance to go snorkelling, then Laura went off on a glass bottomed boat and learned about the reef and the different fish etc....while I got to go Scuba Diving!!! It was amazing, probably a little bit spolied that the first time I go is on the Great Barrier Reef, I even managed to get in 2 dives that day so I spent over an hour under the water Scuba Diving, unfortunatly I think I now have the bug.....so maybe more to come!! While I was down on my dives I saw so many different fish, from Bat fish, Clown fish (nemos), Parrot Fish, fish I dont know oh and a couple of SHARKS!!! although they where not the great white or anything. It was one of the best days I have had yet in Australia, but there is plenty more to come!!! Also on the boat we got a nice lunch and laura discovered the art of sleeping on the boat, which is a first for her, and I think she is begning to belive that its not so bad at sea (well we are going on a 3day Whitsunday Sail so I think its getting better). By the end of the day I was knackered so I kinda just wanted to stay in, so we bought some Bundaberg Rum and coke.....I wouldnt recommend it...not very nice, we had three cans each and didnt finish one between us!!!
On Sunday we then headed to new accomidation, Shennaingans in town, the idea being it was showing the Hibs V Hearts game, and we could then head straight to bed afterwards instead of a 15min walk, but we where too tired and didnt really see much of the game...oops.
The today we hoped on a 6hr bus from Cairns to Townsville and are heading out for tea, to you guessed it another Irish pub!!(not our fault, we get a free meal) then off to Magnetic Island for a few days before out in the Whitsundays over the weekend!! So hopefully update around then!!
Hope eveyone is well!!! feel free to come out and see us if you wanna join the fun!!
