India and Nepal 2022
I am leaving Asia today and heading back to England for an Easter reunion with family and friends. The name on my passport will be the same but I shall return as a different person.
Myanmar and it's people will always have a special place in my heart. I feel enriched by this life experience and for the memories I have shared with so many wonderful inspiring people.
The country has so many deep rooted problems and challenges. Education and healthcare has suffered from decades of neglect and similarly the legal system, transport and other aspects of society need significant improvement.
But what I have learned in a very personal way is that you can never crush the human spirit. Despite overwhelming odds, ordinary people's needs are quite simple - water, food, shelter, a livelihood, a sense of community and hope.
I said at the introduction to this blog that I would not wander into critical or controversial areas and I will stick to that. There is so much to tell outside of this blog and so I will limit myself to just one final comment.
The ordinary people of Myanmar with their friendliness, generosity of spirit, and fortitude deserve so,so much more than they have had In the past. May they find opportunity, peace and freedom in the future.
And finally, one small request please. I have no idea who has been following my adventure through reading this blog. If you have found it of interest, please drop me a message, either on here or email [email protected]. I would love to hear from you.
