India and Nepal 2022
It's that time again to leave Myanmar on the 'visa run' to Thailand, this time not by air but overland.
I get a front seat in a shared taxi with three local people who we pick up from their wooden house in the forest. It takes three hours through local roads and then a new highway to the border town of Myawaddy.
A quick visit to the bank who very courteously tell me I need to change dollars into kyats into baht. I just ask for the final transaction and I'm on my way. Through immigration and passport control and across the friendship bridge linking the two countries.
I have to to remember to change my watch by half an hour and to keep a look out for road traffic which has now switched sides.
I like border crossings - they are fun and full of interesting sights like the money changers on the streets of Myawaddy and the motor bike riders who keep a spare helmet for passengers like me.
I'll back again into Myanmar tomorrow and return to H'pa An.
