India and Nepal 2022
I love travelling when I don't know what happens next but know that it will all be OK - in the great line from the film 'The best Exotic Marigold Hotel' "It will be all right in the end, and if it's not all right, them it's not yet the end"!
Leaving Mae Sot, I walk a couple of blocks and find a motorbike rider who gives me a very odd shaped helmet and I jump on for the five mile trip to the border. Once on the other side back in Myanmar, I am directed to a taxi man who I am told would appreciate being paid upfront as he used up all his money on beer last night.
He is quite a character - he yells out "Go H'pa An go, go go !" every few miles and ends our trip with a car full of tin cans which he has collected en route.
Then there is the rickshaw man who I ask to take me to the bank and back to the hotel I am staying in. He tells me the fare is 'two zero zero.' I decide to give him 1000 kyats to be generous and he replies, 'two zero, zero, .......zero' . I am more than happy to be ripped off and smile knowingly but he does not offer a glimmer of acknowledgement.
Then the truck journey to Mount Kyaikhtiyo ends up being four truck journeys, as they try to offload me on to a bus or a motorbike! I hold my ground and the third one sees me in the back of a truck with heaps of water melons and caged birds as part of the goods on board.
Absolutely love it!
