India and Nepal 2022
Today I say goodbye to my colleagues at the coordination unit of the Women's Organizations Network of Myanmar (WON). I've been with them since the first week of December and we have enjoyed some good times together.
Set up in 2008 to share information, resources and fundraising effort after the catastrophic Cyclone Nargis, WON has grown from its original 9 members to 38 today. It is a very 'inclusive' movement as it embraces all faiths, as well as containing those who are more politically active in their work.
In my office, I have Christian, Buddhist and Muslim team colleagues.
Some organizations, such as the Baptist church groups have existed for over 100 years, whilst some representing some of the ethnic tribal groups are quite recently formed. The main focus for their work is preventing gender based violence (GBV), womens leadership and representation, and supporting the peace building process.
I have been contributing leadership coaching, strategic planning, event facilitation, proposal writing, drafting a Constitution and teaching English. And so, I hope that I have shared a little but of my knowledge and skills in the way VSO likes to work.
I am sure there have been misunderstandings and different cultural ways of working, but overall, it feels like a positive experience.
My colleagues are a lively bunch of characters, always laughing and singing. i will airways remember my time here with affection.
