Today we were all feeling much better so it was time to finally check out a few things in Esperance. Just out of Esperence is a full size replica of the original "Stonehenge" in the UK, it's identical to how it would have looked around 1950BC. It is made out of of Granite from the area. The 10 trilithon stones in a horseshoe pattern weigh between 38 - 50 tonnes each. It is around 8 metres tall. The alter stone inside weighs 9 tonne. As the original it is alligned with the summer solstice sunrise. The station stones are positioned to allow the sun rays to pass through the alter (summer solstice, longest day 22nd December, shortest day 21st of June). All this meant little to the kids as hide and seek was a better form of entertainment. It was a great experience to go here. From there we headed into the Cape Le Grand National Park. What an amazing part of the world this is, too hard to describe, so you'll have to check out the photos. At Lucky Bay the sand is so white and fine it squeaks when you walk on it. The water is an amazing blue. You are also able to drive on the beach which was a great experience for us all. From Lucky Bay we went to Cape Le Grand which is another beach in the National Park. You can camp here and also drive 21km, along the beach. Then back into Esperance for a late lunch. We then did what they call the ocean drive. It's a 40km drive west along the coast that takes you past 19 amazing beaches and whale observatory points. By the time we got back it was around 4:30pm. We took the kids to an adventure park, I washed the car and it was then time to call it a day. Amoungst other things we didn't get to do was Mermaid Leather, the Esperance Museum - where bits of the American Skylab space station are after it fell out of the sky in 1979. So much to do here, being sick was a bummer as we have to head off toward Albany tomorrow.
