Day 2 - We had a nice slow morning kicking back at the caravan park and all going for a swim. Mandy and the kids caught up with friends Erin, Mal and their three kids whilst I headed into Broome for a real coffee and to grab some groceries. We planned on having a quiet day but were going to surprise the kids with a crocodile feeding tour at 3:00pm at Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park. Malcolm Douglas established the Crocodile Park in 1983 near Cable Beach, but has since re-located the park to 18km east of Broome. As well as alligators, fresh and saltwater crocodiles the park is home to colourful birdlife, dingoes, wallabies, emus, jabirus, snakes and lizards. Malcolm Douglass is a bit of a legend and the first of the real crocodile hunters. Sadly he died in 2010, however his family are still dedicated to running the park and we had a great time there. At the park amongst they also breed crocodiles for their skins; they have 6000 crocodiles on site! It was awesome getting close up to 5 metre crocodiles as they stood up to grab a fish from the tour guide. The tour guide was very informative and funny and gave us all a great show and insight into crocodiles. The kids got to hold baby crocodiles which they thought was pretty cool.
Following our time at the crocodile park we headed into Broome to catch the camel riding on Cable Beach. You have to drive down onto the beach and along it for around 500 metres. Mandy was so excited as we came across the camels as her parents rode them around 12 months ago. It was coming on sunset and we stopped and admired the camels as three groups of them with tourists rode by. Others had driven down to the beach and set themselves up with picnic tables, nibbles and wine to watch the sun go down. It is so beautiful here on sunset, it just makes you fall in love with the place. The beaches, the lifestyle, the weather. Mmmmm. Might not be the last we see of this place............
