Hello everyone. I apologise I have not updated my blog in a while. I thought I didn't have much to write about, but as I was talking to my mom last night I realised that a lot has happened in the past month and I think I should fill you all in.
I guess I should start with the beginning of October when I went up to Port Rush again, this time with a group of friends from Jordanstown. We left campus Friday October 1 in the afternoon and arrived in Port Rush at around 7. Our first order of business after checking into the hostel was to get dinner. We went to this little restaurant near the water called the Wine Bar. I had actually been here once before with my family when we visited Port Rush 5 years ago. It was interesting to see what had changed in the area and what had stayed exactly the same. After a delicious dinner, most of us were exhausted and we headed back to the hostel and went to bed.
We woke up bright and early the next day to start our sightseeing journey. After walking through Port Rush to the bus stop, we took the Causeway Rambler out to Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. This rope bridge has traditionally been used by fisherman to catch salmon (I think), but now it is mostly a tourist attraction. You get to the rope bridge by walking down a dirt road along the coast that has some of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. Only 5 people are allowed on the rope bridge at a given time, so it took our group a little while to cross, but once you get across you see amazing panoramic views of Ireland and the ocean.
After finishing up at Carrick-a-Rede we again took the Causeway Rambler to the Giant's Causeway. I won't go into much detail here because I have been here already, however I will say it is much nicer to visit the Causeway when it is sunny as opposed to when it is raining.
When my friends and I had finished walking the Causeway, we took a taxi over to Bushmills Whiskey Distillery and paid to take the tour. It is very interesting to see the processes that occur to create Irish Whiskey. As opposed to other whiskeys, irish whiskey is distilled three times, which makes it much smoother than scotch whiskey and much nicer to drink. Bushmills is the first whiskey distillery in Ireland and has just celebrated its 400th anniversary two years ago. After the tour and a well spent half hour in the gift shop, my friends and I went to get dinner at a local restaurant. The fish and chips there were really good. We then took the bus back to Port Rush where we picked up our bags from the hostel and had a little wait for our train. During this down time we went to Morellli's Ice Cream shop. Now when my mom was little and went to Ireland she told me she would always go to Morelli's and have a Knickerbocker Glory, and every time she has gone back to visit going to Morelli's has always been on the list. So while we waited I had a Knickerbocker Glory just for my mom, and it was delicious. It was the perfect ending to a very long day, after which we got the train home.
Well that's all for now. Hope you all enjoyed this… I'll be talking about the Kate Nash Concert I went to next.
Love, Renate
