Colleen & Tom's Explorations
We had a lovely day today - we had breakfast in the Tea Room at our hotel, except Shannon - she was a bit jet-lagged so she went back up to our room. Jess, Tom and I then walked over to the Carlton Hotel (across the road) and saw the Viva rep who booked us on a tour for tonight.
We all went to the Singapore Crocodilarium, which was a non-touristy place, then on to Mt Faber (by MRT, after a nice man from Narranderra showed us how to get tickets), where we caught the cable car to Sentosa Island and the bus to Underwater World - the largest aquarium in Asia - and it was really good. While we were there it started raining - tropical monsoon rain!! It was torrential!!
We caught the cable car back to the World Trade Centre, in the middle of the thunderstorm!! It was amazing.
We had Maccas for lunch at the MRT shopping centre, came back to our hotel and had a look through Raffles City - the shopping centre in our hotel.
After a nap we were collected from the hotel foyer at 6pm for our night safari at the zoo. This is a special nocturnal zoo - the first of its kind in the world, and only one year old. 90% of the animals are nocturnal. We had a 45 min trolley ride through the zoo - we saw rhinos, elephants, lions, tigers, bears, many deer, otters, leopards, buffaloes, hyenas, giraffes, jackals, and porcupines - really close up and actually active!! After the ride we did a 50 min walking track where we saw owls, bats (flying foxes) and birds (pelicans) as well as all the other animals again. It was really good.
We were dropped back at our hotel at 10pm. Tom and I went to Raffles (across the road) while Jessie and Shannon had baths etc. We shared a Singapore Sling and a tonic water, before heading back for some Lindt in our hotel room.
