Hi Guys, We arrived at the USA's capital Washington D.C on the 13th of June. Our hotel (Club Quarters) was located in the business district and was an ideal base as it was only a couple of 100 metres from the White House and all the other main attractions.
During our stay we visited all the main attractions including the obvious White House which was a great deal smaller then expected. The White House was very easy to find as the road leading to it was blocked off and crowded with security.
All the main tourist attractions are within a few miles radius of the White House. Within this area it is noticeable how well kept and clean everywhere is. After visiting the White House we walked to the Vietnam Memorial which was a very saddening experience. It acknowledges all the U.S citizens who were involved and died during the war (55,000 approximately). We also saw the World War 2 memorial, the Washington Monument and the U.S Capitol building (which is enormous).
Are main highlight was walking along Constitutional Avenue which encompasses many important, large architectural buildings. Coming from Liverpool it was like looking at a row of St George's Halls. Whilst walking along this fascinating avenue we visited the Natural World Museum which was very interesting. I especially enjoyed it as I was able to look at the largest blue diamond in the world ( a girls best friend ha!). There was so much going on along Constitutional Avenue and near the bottom of the avenue there was a 3 on 3 basketball tournament taking place. This was very enjoyable to watch and a different cultural experience and a nice change from football ha. The event was sponsored by Coca-Cola and offered free drink and food for the community. So us being backpackers of course could not resist a freebie. In all we enjoyed are stayed in Washington but we do feel that we would have benefited from taking a bus tour as there is so much history and knowledgeable facts within the city.
We have now finished our tour of the east coast and are moving on to the west coast starting in Las Vegas to get the party started ha!
luv yea.
