Hi Everyone,
Arrived in New York safe and sound on the 26th of May. We got a shuttle bus from the airport to our hotel which was much cheaper than a taxi so it was a good start on our budget ha. We stayed in a hotel which was located just off Broadway on the west side of Manhattan, this was a great location for getting around on the cheap subway (2$ fare). We were in NY for 5 days and easily settled into the diverse NY lifestyle, including yummy bagels for breakfast.
On the day we arrived it was a bank holiday and everywhere was extremely busy (hustle and bustle). As it was late afternoon we took a stroll around Manhattan and found a lovely cheap Deli to eat we also done alittle bit of window shopping along 5th and Madison avenue before heading back to our hotel.
During the rest of our trip we viewed all the major attractions and sightseeing in New York. These included walking the Brooklyn Bridge which is highly recommended as the views of the skyline are wonderful. Ground Zero- here we went to the memorial church and lit a candle in memory and respect for the lost and their families. Staten Island Ferry- This was great as it was free and we got a great view of the statue of liberty. We walked around some of the other major districts of NY including Wall Street (the famous financial district), Soho (shopping boutiques), Greenwhich Village and Little Italy were we had a nice Italian pasta.
We had some fantastic nights in New York and Mary especially was overwhelmed at the Sex and the City premiere getting to see many A list celebrities including all the cast, Donald Trump, the Olsen Twins and many more. The only downfall was the battery went on the camera after the 1st picture which was Miranda's Steve (Ray found this quite amusing). We also went to watch the Eagles in Madison Square Garden which was an experience although we didnt know much of their music but had a little boogie to hotel california when it came on. We spent a night around Times Square had something to eat and just enjoyed the lights and the atmosphere.
On our final day we went to the Rockerfella centre and done the famous Top of the Rock. This is like the modern empire state building were you get a fantastic view of the city. We finished the trip by chilling out in central park which is unbelievable how tranquil it is being in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world.
On a whole we absolutely loved NY city and would recommend it to anyone. We cant wait to go back again but next time with plenty of money for some serious shopping.
Next were off to Niagara Falls,
Speak to you then
