Hey everyone, we arrived in beautiful Philadelphia on the 6/6/08 and was pleasently surprised. We arrived at Union Station after another gruelling train journey which we had split into 2 seperate days, we firstly travelled 7 hours to Syracuse (which was a scary place and would not recommend going) were we stayed overnight, the following day we had another 7 hours journey to New York before a final 2 hour journey to Philadelphia. It was not as bad as it seemed and we were just excited to get going and see the city. Our hotel was the best we had stayed in so far, it was called the Club Quarters and was right in the middle of the business district, it had free internet, gym and all other little things that make a difference when your backpacking. During the 3 days we spent there, we done quite alot. On are first day we took a tour called avenue of the arts with 2 tourist guides who knew the city and the buildings inside out. Were obviously no architects but it was great to learn about the buildings and their history. City Hall was unbelievable, it was absolutely huge and the detail in the building was amazing. In the middle of City Hall there is a large cross marked on the courtyard floor, this actually represents the exact centre of the city.
A hightlight of are stay in Philadelphia and a huge tourist attraction was the Museum of Arts were the Rocky stairs and statue are situated. Ray thoroughly enjoyed running up the Rocky stairs except it was harder in his flip flops ha!
The dining in Philadelphia is great especially as many restaurants include BYO (bring your own drink) which is great for backpackers on a budget.
We really enjoyed are stay in Philadelphia and would recommend it if you are travelling the east coast.
Speak to you soon,
Ray and Mary xxxxx
