Aloha Everyone,
We arrived at Honolulu Hawaii on Monday 11th of August after an emotional departure from Los Angeles. It had been a long time since we had lugged around our backpacks and unfortunately for Ray his backpack was weighing a few kilos extra as a result of a couple of shopping sprees in California (ooops).
Upon leaving the airport we were pleasantly surprised at the convenience of the shuttle service to our hotel. We purchased a round trip shuttle ticket for just $15 each. We arrived at our hotel the Aloha Aqua Surf and Spa around midnight, checked in then went straight too bed.
We awoke early in the morning as we were excited and keen to check out Hawaii. We couldn't have picked a better location as we were central to all of Honolulu's main attractions and only 1 block from the vibrant Waikiki Beach.
Throughout our week in Honolulu we took part in many cool activities. These included hiking up the Diamond Head Volcano which is a famous landmark in Oahu. It was a tough hike especially as there were a few claustrophobic tunnels along the way but the stunning views from the top made it all worthwhile.
Our main highlight of Hawaii was snorkelling at the famous Hanauma Bay Coral Reef. As you will see from our Hawaii pictures Hanauma Bay is such a picturesque place. We hired snorkel equipment which took a lot of getting use but after a couple of tries we soon got the knack of it and Ray was swimming along like Michael Phelps haha! We didn't manage to find Nemo but we saw lots of other amazing sea life including a large sea turtle. We really enjoyed snorkelling and are looking forward to the Great Barrier Reef and Mingaloo Reef in Australia.
The rest of the trip was spent mainly relaxing on the vibrant Waikiki Beach which is absolutely beautiful. We played games, watched a Hula show and watched a surf competition. On most evenings we would have some dinner and then sit on the beachfront watching the sunset which was really romantic.
On the days we didn't spend relaxing on the beach we took a bus and toured the island stopping off along the way at Ala Moana Shopping Centre. This was perfect for Mary as she got to spend her birthday vouchers from her cousin Jenny in her favourite store Forever21.
We really enjoyed our stay in Hawaii and will definitely return in the future to visit the other islands.
Speak soon,
Mary and Ray xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
