We took another boat and bus from Ao Nang to get to Koh Phangan. This time it was a relatively smooth journey, beside the fact that the electricity went off on the boat for a while and it arrived two hours later than it was supposed to, but that was nothing compared to what we had to put up with previously.
Our hostel was basic but nice. We had booked a five bed dorm so we could all be together for when the others arrived, but after one night four more girls joined us. I think the owner had just packed the beds in as they knew it would be full for the full moon party, but nine girls all getting ready in the same room every night, could get a bit hectic!
After a couple of nights in Koh Phangan, it was the day for the girl's to arrive! We were so excited to see everyone. Helen arrived first, then we waited on the balcony for what felt like ages for Katharine and Colette to arrive. When they finally did arrive, we had a bit of a catch up (the four of us hadn't been together for six months!) then went out to do a bit of shopping. We spent ages picking our full moon outfits - we all looked so cool in our matching shorts and vests, then we went for a nice mexcian meal. Everyone had been travelling alot so we didn't do too much that night, and we all wanted to be fresh for the next day.
Full Moon Party day!! Colette and Helen had arranged a day trip so me, Jane and Katharine spent the day by the pool then met the others after their trip and we went for a pre-full moon Thai meal - It was gorgeous! After getting back to the hostel we all started getting ready, I was in the shower when all the electricity went off in the room, including all the lights. So it was bad enough having nine girls getting ready in one room, but there were now nine girls who need to get ready in a room with no electricity or lights! We used our tourches to get what we needed from the room and then took our party into the hallway. We dried our hair, put makeup on and cover ourselves with glow in the dark paint. Me, being the least artistic person in the world got a lot of help with my paints. When we were all ready, we got a taxi to Haad Rin and as soon as we arrived we bought some buckets (supposedly vodka but you never know) and made our way to the beach. I was shocked at how busy it actually was, there must have been thousands of people all here for the full moon party and they all looked like us - full moon party vests and covered in paint. There were loads of bars along the beach playing all different kinds of music so it was good that every part of the beach had a different atmosphere. We spent the entire night dancing and moving between the different bars. Soon enough the sun begain to rise, and the whole place was still chocker! We sat and watched the sunrise then at 9am we decided that we couldn't dance anymore so it was time to go home -god knows what time it actually carried on until!
We all slept for a few hours after getting back from the full moon, then went back into Haad Rin in the night for tea. On the way back to our hostel our taxi crashed into a motor bike. At first we didn't realise what had happened until we looked out of the back of the taxi and saw a man on the floor with a motor bike on top of him - it was horrendous! Our taxi driver only seemed bothered about his taxi and not the man, but alot of people rushed over to help him. We had to get out of the taxi as one of the wheels was broken in the crash. Thankfully as we walked away we saw the man move! Most locals and tourists hire motor bikes in Thailand but there are just so dangerous, definitely only taxis for us!
Koh Phangan was so much fun, but it's onto Koh Tao :)
