We had arranged a tuk tuk to pick us up at the hostel at 7am to take us to the airport. I was so excited to be back on a plane it felt like so long since we had been on one and it meant we would have no more scary bus journeys!! I was so happy at this thought!
Our flight to Kuala Lumpur was fine, the four hours went quite quickly considering we had no entertainment. We arrived in the afternoon and got the sky bus to the centre of the city. We had no where booked but knew we wanted to stay around china town, so we took a subway there and found a nice guest house that was right by the main shopping area in china town - we were very happy! After dropping our bags off we went straight out to find something to eat and we saw Nando's, Subway, KFC and McDonald's, I don't think we realised how much we had missed these type of foods till we saw them - it felt good to not be eating rice for a change! So we settled for McDonald's which was lovely, then we had a walk through china town. China town is full of stalls selling fake items, quite like Thailand but not as cheap. I had been looking forward to buying some Cath Kidston things as I had read that they sell it here and I wasn't disappointed as there where literally stalls just full of it. Rather than impulse buy we went to all the different stalls asking how much things were ready for the next day to do some real bargaining.
One thing that we noticed about Malaysia is that people stare at us A LOT! It was slightly like we were aliens or something. I was really suprised that people stare so much because it's such a busy city, and I assumed people here must see a lot of westerners. It was also funny walking through the market as the stall owners would shout things at us, Jane got a few people shouting Lady Gaga at her because of her blonde hair, I got one shouting Shakira at me because of my curly hair, and because we had walked up and down the market so much some stall owners even started to recognise us - I think we shopped a bit too much.
The next day we got the train to see the Petronas towers. The subway took us straight into a huge shopping centre which is at the base of the towers. It had shops like Zara and even Topshop, then lots of designer shops, it was one of the nicest shopping centres I have ever been in. After finally finding our way out of it we walked around the building and saw the towers. I knew they were going to be big but they were much bigger than I expected. We took some pictures then walked around to the other side of it where there was a park and also some dancing fountains, but they were shut for maintenance which was a bit annoying as it would have made it even better! While we were taking some pictures this group of Malaysian boys came up to us and asked us for a picture, at first I thought they meant for me to take a picture of them but they wanted a picture with us! There was about five of them and one by one they got a picture with us, it made me feel like I was famous! But it was all very strange, it really is like they have never seen western people in their lives!
After our photo shoot we went back into the shopping centre and bought some lunch, then sat outside in the sun for a while before making our way back to our hostel. We had a Subway for tea then went back to the market to have a little look around, it really was addictive looking around the stalls there was just so much that we wanted to buy but again we had to keep reminding ourselves that we have backpacks and mine was already crushing my shoulders everytime I wore it.
We decided that we wanted to see the towers all lit up in the night. So after a lazy day and another McDonalds's (I felt so guitly eating it again) we got the train back to the towers. It was so much better at night than in the day time, the lights made the towers look like they sparkle. There was a concert going on the next day right infront of the towers so we watched people sound checking for a while before heading back to our hostel. We packed everything that we had bought ready for our our flight to Japan the next day. Japan is probably the country that I am most looking forward to visiting, and we also get to see Colette. Can't Wait!!
