This blogs about Phuket where we were for 5 nights, we got the ferry into the port and then got a long mini bus to where we were staying it took about 45 minutes to get there. The hotel was lovely but there was too many steps to get too the room I was exhausted by the time I got there. The area we were staying in was called Patong its basically one of the most seediest places in thailand that everyone tells story's about so although its not our kid of place you still have to go to say you've been I really wasn't looking forward o it though as I thought I would the it and feel uncomfortable there as all you hear about is the thai women trying to get the men into their go go bars (strippers). When we got there is was the early evening and w was hungry so we decided to go to the juncelyon shopping complex I read about online as they were meant to have. Nice food court in the basement. We walked to get there using a Map from the hotel and somehow managed to find it, it was about 10 minute walk. We eventually found the food court which was expensive for a food court it was like 120 baht for my dinner which is like £2.50 I know it's not a lot but usually food courts are between 40 -60 baht for like chicken and rice so 80p-£1.20 but it was so worth it i had chicken in breadcrumbs with rice and sweet chilli sauce and dave had a chicken noodle soup, which he thought was tasty but didn't think it beat the koh lanta one. We even treated ourselves to desert we had mango and sticky rice not sure if any of you have tryed it before but it's like the tastiest desert ever! Nan you need to make it for everyone it's like chopped up fresh mango with sweet rice and topped with condensed milk it goes so well together. After dinner we just went back to the hotel room to relax for the evening where dave read a book and I watched tv and had n early night.
The next morning we got up had our bread and jam and went and laid by the pool it was so hot and the pool was freezing it was nice when you were in there but you had to pluck up the courage to actually get in. We laid there for a couple of hours and then we went upto the room and looked on the ipad or somewhere to stay next as we had to check out the next morning. After deciding where to go next we went on the hunt for a cheap lunch but we couldn't find any street stalls just resteraunts that weren't really cheap which was annoying, so we went back to the food court for lunch where We both got chicken in cashew nuts and rice was so tasty and its big portions. We then just relaxed for the afternoon and got ready for our night out in the famous patong. We had a few of our usual samsongs and soda waters with a splash of one and headed out, we walked to bangla road (the seedy strip) and walked up and own it, it was basically full of open front bars with women dancing on poles and old men sitting watching them and then there was thai prostitutes at different stages of the strip some were women but the majority were ladyboys. Then there was the ladyboys that do the shows dressed in like Caberiet sparkly outfits. I was surprised that there was alot of women there on the strip which was a relief as I thought I would be a massive minority. After walking up and down the strip we went and sat in the bar and had a couple of beers which was so funny as were just people watching as everyone came past in and out of the bars, the prositutes trying to pick up men and them obviously having beer goggles on not realising its a man chatting them up. There was old men everywhere with thai women at least half there age it was so gross but amusing. After a couple of beers we were tired as it was about midnight and we had like a 15 minute walk back so went to head home. I actually really enjoyed patong though and going out there for a night it was funny to sit back and watch what happens and I felt comfortable there as eveyone left me and dave alone as we were a couple and I think it might be because daves not white either, they see white men as being wealthy so they go for them.
On the way back we stopped at mc Donald's for my first mc d meal since being in thailand and we got a cheeseburger meal and ate when we got back it tasted amazing!
The next morning we checked out of our hotel and got in a taxi to karon which was the next place for us to o for 3 nights, when we to there to our hotel called the little mermaid we checked in and then went for lunch we found a little food stall opposite or hotel and got some chicken noodles with soya sauce, there were so nice but the portion was stupidly small. We also went there for dinner that night and got a thai green curry and a Tom Kha Kai (chicken in coconut soup) and it wasn't nice atal so we didn't got back there again. We walked and checked out the beach before we had dinner which was such nice sea bt the amount of tourists was ridiculous it was heaving which I hated. After the horrible curry dinner we had we got some fresh mango cut up on a fruit stall and chilled out in the room reading and watching tv.
The next day we got up and went to sunbathe on the beach which we did for. Couple of hours an then we went for lunch at another food stall where we ate lunch and dinner for the next 2days. We then spent the afternoon working out the rest of our thailand trip and booking hotels etc for it.
That evening after dinner we decided to go of a drink so we got a large beer from the 7/11 to drink why we were getting ready because its cheaper for a large chang or Leo its about 50 baht so £1 it's the size of like the large Kobras you get in the Indian but when your in a bar your looking about 120 - 150 baht for a large beer so anything upto about £3 so it's obviously a lot more. Once we finished them we went to the bar opposite our hotel as they had a live band singing in English playing the old songs so right up my street. We got a jug of beer and had a sing along and then decided to get another one and stay longed as we were having such a good time but we said after that job we couldn't buy anymore because it would be too expensive and stupid of us. The man that worked in there spoke really good English and was given me free peanuts all night I has so many packs I even put the last one in my pocket he gave me as I was all peanuted out. When we finished the second jug the man who worked there asked us if we wanted another and when we said we couldn't we'd spent our money so we were going to head back he wanted us to stay out so he gave us both a free beer which was lovely of him so we could stay out and listen to the band. After our free beer went and the thai band stopped at 1am the man got a jug of beer for me him and dave on the house and we sat down and spoke to him for a while, he told us he learnt all of his English from films which is crazy and so clever. The whole of karon is full of Russians like the signs are in thai then Russian not English like usual it's a Russian holiday destination so I think that's why he liked us there someone other than Russian with English as their first language he could talk too, after the beer we made the 10 steps across the road to the hotel room and went to sleep rather drunk. The next morning I woke up with the worst hangover and didn't get out of bed till about 12 when we went for lunch and then I got back in bed still feeling rough and we got snacks from the 7/11 and basically had a lay day and relaxed All day and did nothing before our journey on the koh tao the next day, I will do another blog from there. Miss you and love you all xxx
