Crossed over to Uruguay and back via Busquebus port. Fairly expensive compared to bussing it around the coast but we have done more than our fair share of overland travelling! We even travelled 1st class over there because there was no other spaces left, although we ended up sitting on the floor outside the shop due to lack of 1st class space! 1hr quick ferry over to Colonia and we arrived at noonish and checked into the Colonia Hostel, grand place no problems. Stayed here one night/day and walked around the freezing town, lots of cute little cafes but also lots of raf nik nak shops too. We found a mexican restaurant (La Tijuka) and tried that out at night, our best meal so far in S. America. Not much to do here but a nice wee break anyhow. I couldn´t get over how cold it was, very windy so wrap up warm if you plan on going at this time of year!
We bussed it over to Montevideo, comfortable bus journays all over S. America so we hear from fellow travellers and it´s the way to go if you have plenty of time (which we don´t). 2 and a half hrs on bus freezing but still managed a wee snooze. Headed staright for the Ciudad Viejo Hostel (Old Town, as translated by Sarah, but she is occasionally wrong i must tell you all). It bit more expensive all round compared to Argentina. We reccommend Roma Arom for delicious pasta dishes, who take Visa. I do not reccommend the Museo Tornes Garcia as they kindly ask for a donation when they won´t even put writings into English! Plus the paintings aren´t very interesting or abstract anyhow. We just felt like winding down for a day so watched a few movies, V for Vendetta and Monsters Inc. - both good. Monsters Inc. - V funny! At night Sarah cooked us some freezing cold pasta and sauce, i don´t know what went wrong there, while i tried my hand at a free spanish lesson. The teacher i gathered did not speak much english and not really equipped for absolute beginners like myself so i made a quiet get away for cold pasta after 20 minutes! Now, i have to admit to my addiction to a Danielle Steel book i picked up in S. Africa hostel - ´Wanderlust´. It even sounds enchanting! I could barely put the book down and when i did, Sarah would pick it up to read! I finshed it on ferry back to Buenos Aires yesterday and life just doesn´t seem as much fun without it. I now want to go to Chicago for a look as one of the characters changed trains here, Sarah says i´m alittle crazy and i don´t know anything about the place but if anyone out there can offer some insight then that woiuld be wonderful. Oh and Sarah says i´ve een started talking like Danielle Steel, with words like charming, splendid and wonderful. Is this such a bad thing?!?
