Nat's Adventures
Firstly, Congrats to Kat & Dom on getting hitched and have fab honeymoon!
Arrived in a fairly calm Delhi Monday night, had booked in to the Smyle Inn (very appropriate!) for 2 nights, just off the manic Main Bazaar. You have to dodge people, tuk-tuks, rickshaws (not as good as Edinburghs!) aswell as COWS. There are pee holes all over the place for men, of course, and it stank, worse thing i've ever smelt - a hundred UTIs in one place perhaps! On the first morning Sarah and i thought we could conquer Delhi on foot - how wrong were we?!?! Got lost and took a couple of hours to find way back again, with sweat through my top shirt and even the straps of backpack -we found out it was 40degrees! My skin ain't made for those kind of temperatures but my forehead is now all one colour and back in front of the camera again. Deleted all my pics from camera by mistake, i might go back to disposables. Went to the Red Fort, did'nt make lasting impression on me, as Sarah says anything of slight interest has been removed or stolen by some country or other. It's now just crumbled walls and dry fountains. One of the many places where we have been asked to have our picutres taken with Indian daughters and wives. A chap asked Sarah today for pic and she said only for 10rupees - go girl! Ghandi museum recommended if you're into technology, very hi-tech but your not allowed to touch anything, anything! Did'nt learn an awful lot about the man himself and a very long tour of the place - but it is free.
I'm blending in nicely with my techni-colour clothes, bright green trousers and radiant purple pashmina worn together, you have to see it to believe it! Got 12hr train journey to Shimla overnight. Had my best nights sleep yet on that train. Shimla (2200m above sea level) famous for its trekking, mountains and steep hills everywhrere, no cars allowed into the main Mall, so we walked uphill for say half hour to get to Upthar hotel - i honestly thought i might die, similar to the occasion where Ciara MADE me eat those chillis in her famous green thai curry! Aclimatised slightly now! Went for a recommended walk a.ka. TREK up to monkey temple, Sarah kept saying it would be worth it and the views amazing. Well, it was misty and surounded in trees at top and also we were not actually allowed into temple! But if we were to stay here for a couple of months i'd aim to walk it once a week.
Got talking to some locals who could probably set us up with some work in school and hospital, but we're heading up north tommorow to explore options then see.
Been on bus trip today (tour 1) from Tourist Info, seen a golf course, potato research place, an apple tree and a nature park with alot of barking deers! Off for Dominoes pizza now. Take care x
