Nat's Adventures
Went straight from Kolkota airport to train station and made our way over to the 'pink city'. They say pink but Sarah and i have agreed that it is more orangey peach! Nice all the same.
We shared our sleeping bunks on the train with a family of cockroaches - who knew when food was around. Honestly they're not as ugly as i imagined. The cute mouse jumping over our bags and sarah's legs was more like entertainment than a pest. We rocked up to Evergreen Guesthouse at 2am and had already arranged for our rickshaw driver to pick us up after sleep for our city tour, 200ruppees but didn't bargain as he seemed a nice man.
Seen the city palace - nice and touristy, you can take a relaxing stroll around, a nice art gallery here too. The observatory across the road was cool and bizarre, the guided tour probably is worth it but we need our independence too much these days. It has sculptures that having something or other to do with the Zodiac signs, a huge sundial and you can climd up most of these concrete sculptures for nice views. Went to some from free palace, never new the name of it but i'm sure every tuk-tuk man knows it, this is where we got henna tattoos on hands, probably paid too much for them, but sure why stop spending now?
The Amber fort also got visited but we only just had enough cash to pay to get in and it looked pretty battered and bruised from what we seen, although they are renovating it now. Going to treat ourselves to a Bollywood movie tommorow night at thye giant meringue cinema. Got home just in time tonight as storm started. This is when the beasties come to life!
Will put Chandigarh and Kolkota journals on at some point.
Oh and forgot to mention motorbike taxi incident in Thailand. One motorbike with driver, me and Sarah squished in between with carrier bag of stuff. Sarah was grand cos she couldn't see past the man's helmet but i saw EVERYTHING and kept screeching in her ear while trying to keep my flip flops on, as there was not enough ledge for all our feet! I definately reccommend this way of travelling.
