Off to Birdsville today, 630km trip today, with 270km of that being dirt, so another early morning. Packing today seemed a little easier and we managed to be on the road by 8am, hurrah!
The scenery for the morning consisted of large windmills, more creeks, wildlife and the first of the sand dunes. We crossed the bridge over Cooper Creek and James was very impressed by the amount of water. Ed had his usual uncanny knack of falling asleep 30 minutes before we stopped at Windorah for morning tea. Poor Ed hasn't been sleeping very well in the car on these rough roads, though you wouldn't notice it he has been so good.
Back on the road and it wasn't to far before we hit the dirt. We had a random roadside lunch next to a big pile of rocks, and the kids were in their element climbing, wandering, exploring. James is getting quite a collection of 'treasures' along the way and we now have a car full of rocks.
The last 200km seemed to take forever, everyone was tired and had pretty much had enough of being in the car. We finally made it into Birdsville a little after 5pm and set up camp for the next 2 nights. It's nice to know that we don't have to spend the day in the car tomorrow and maybe we will get a little sleep in (though I am not sure if the kids got that memo
