Thank you for commenting Momma, Dad, Kara and Becky. (Kara don't be mean about Momma I liked it and Becky OBVS Bbabes).
Day Two in Finland.
I am very happy as we now have internet in the flat. Today we had the orientation day which was bants. There are so many differences between uni here and at home but at the same time there are alot of similarities.
Classes here usually start at 8am. Which if you said that at home everyone would have a hairy fit, but I have been talking to some students from Germany and France and Austria and The Netherlands about it and it is said to be quiet common for uni to start that early. So I am hoping when I work out my timetable that I don't have too many early starts.
Today we had lunch in the uni cafe place which is called Restaurant Fox. It was quite nice but I never really knew what the food was. I think it was a kind of pasta thingy. They have lunch from about 11-12 and the thing that I found most strange was the fact that lunch it 2.60 for a hot meal and drink but the strange part is the drink can be beer. YES BEER at uni for free at 11am in the morning, I stood there in shock as people helped them selves to a glass of beer...no ID required.
Life in Finland is a complete opposite from Dunf, and Scotland. This being said I am really enjoying the differences and discovering them along the way.
Where I live is surrouded by massive christmas tree forest and the uni and apartments are in the clearing. It is literally like living in twilight. It is so quiet and peaceful here and I think people get shocked that I speak so much. I don't know if I will come back quiet or even more chatty due to the fact I have been quieter for 3 months.
The uni itself is lovely and the staff and other students are all very friendly and welcoming. I have to sort out my timetable to ensure all my classes fit.
I am living with two french girls (Camille and Natahlie) and two german girls (Sue and Marion) the uni also offers beginners courses in german and french so if it all goes wrong with learning the finnish I may improve my french or learn some german.
By no means can I speak Finnish (yet!) but living here and being surrounded by the words all the time definetly helps things. I am all ready learning the days of the week and how to say thank you.
This weekend I think we are going to explore a little bit more and I also want to plan some things that I would like to do when I am here.
I relaise that this blog entry is becoming like an essay so I will leave it there for now.
Love xxxxxxx
