Pondicherry And Loggers Do The World
Dear All,
Sorry it has been a wee while but i have been staying in the mountains where they are just getting to grips with the telephone, let alone internet.
Since out venture to Jaipur we left for a city called Jodphur, where riding jodphurs come from. My Lonely PLanet travel guide described it as a city where the streets where scented with incense and roses, infact it was a stinking s*** hole where the sewage runs freely down the streets and we had a near miss witha spray of s*** coming out of a man hole. We did venture up to the mountain behind the city where you get the most amazing view of the old town which is all painted indigo blue and is stunning.
After Jodphur we left for a village called Ranakpur in the mountains of southern Rajasthan. For the first time we started to experience the real india we had all come to imagine in our heads before we arrived. The whole mountain was covered in dense green jungle with coloba monkeys swinging between the trees. Walking throught the jungle you could stumble upon large 12,000 year old Rajasthani temples. Wr stayed in a lovely little hotel for under 2 quid a night. We chose the large tented accomodation on top of the hillside overlooking a crocodile filled lake and with the swimming pool, so for most of yesterday we played in the pool looking out over the mountains and the jungle then last night we sat and watched the stars. You can see Venus and Mars from here too (we had an astrologer point them out to us the other night). We have now met some other travellers from england and only 18 years old. However the b*****s have 5 grand each and are far from living it rough. Anyway we have nw left ranakpur and are in a small beautiful city called Udaipur where mu uncle james is apaparently for one night so i am trying to track him down for a free meal.
Logs and I have decided it is time to go back to basics and start living it rough, so as soon as we reach goa we are building a mud hut on the beach and buying a gas stove for cooking our own fish. We are all looking forward to getting to the coast so we can settle down for a while. We have been on the move for some time now and we are getting tired of it.
I have woken up this morning feeling ill for the first time. I feel slightly feverish and my body is aching so i am taking it easy at the moment. Still i am not suffering too badly as indian pharmacies do not have restrictions on what they sell over the counters so i am not short of VERY good painkillers.
On Sunday we head to Mumbai where we all going to hang out down at a place called Coloba where apparently scouts pick up westerners to appear in major bollywood movies. When I meet a film director aunt sarah i shall get you a part too.
As for the whole experience I have found it tough to start of with. I am finding the people here slower than i thought possible and their complete stupidity is just irritating. The north indian culture has fast changed many of opinions about oppression and poverty in developing countries but then i am yet to visit the south where i believe the culture is very different. I'm not saying i am not compassionate to their situation, i am just seeing the scale of the problem with regards to eradicating poverty when each and every person lives only for the day and has no concept about forward thinking.
For myself i have found time to start meditating again, which has helped me settle down a little better. I do think though i am getting restless over the fact i dont feel i am doing anything constructive at the moment. Anyone who knows me, will know i cant sit still for more than five seconds. So i think soon i shall have to take part in some voluntary work. The whole experience of travelling is far tougher mentally than i actually prepared myself for but in a good way. We are all getting stronger by the day and enjoying the unexpected situations we come across each day. Despite how all this may sound (i.e. really negative), I am so glad to be hear. I am loving the whole challenge. There is so much more to travelling than just seeing the world.
I am sorry i do not get the chance to email you all individually but computers are slow out here. I really hope your all well and doing well at work, school etc. Please email me all your news and send any juicy gosp this way.
Take Care for now and will speak again soon
Loads of Love

P.P.S. Whoever is planning to pick me up from the airport when i get home, i would recommend you bring a bucket of bleach and hot water as i have now taken to having a bath out of a bucket of cold water which doesn't really do the job.
