Pondicherry And Loggers Do The World
Dear all,
Well it has been a crazy week with loads to report. I think when i last sent out a wee blog i was in a beautiful city called Udaipur. We spent 3 days there just relaxing and chilling out after all the travelling through Rajasthan. We had a lovely little hotel perched up on the hillside under the city palace where we met a crazy frenchman who is a stunt co-ordinator for major feature films all over the world. He is currently out here filming a something with Sean Bean but to Abs disappointment he would not introduce us.
We left Udaipur on Sunday evening at 7.45 on a sleeper train for Mumbai. Our carriage was to say the least, well cosy. Being a smoker i was also keen to discover whether i was about to embark on an 18hr train journey without smoking. I was told you were not allowed to smoke on the train but instead had to open the main heavy carriage door and hang out while the train was moving. I think the girls where slightly concerned as to whether i was going to fall out (which fair enough was a huge possibility considering how much the train swings around) but it was a first class view. We then arrived at a place called Ahemdebad at 4.20am where we had to wait for 2.5 hrs for our next train to Mumbai. It was a complete stinking s*** hole (sorry pardon the language but there really is no other way to describe it). We shared a platform with about 3000 Indians who took to pissing and s***ting and spitting all over the place. The girls then huddled up close to me just to absorb the smell of cigarettes, it really was that bad. We sat there in time for the sunrise and then jumped on our next train to Mumbai at 7am. We had another 9 hour journey on that where i shared a seat with a wee family of cockroaches, a rather odd looking spider and a s*** load of mosquitoes which have done some serious damage to my legs (b*****s)! I met loads of interesting people on the train who were telling me about life in Mumbai and how expensive it is and what price i should be paying for things to avoid being ripped off. A nice woman next to me also shared her breakfast of Paranthas (a vegetable stuffed indian flat bread) with me as i think she could see i was fed up of biscuits and plain bread. At 4pm we pulled into Mumbai where we then had to lug my now 200kg rucksack through the station to the complaints desk to retrieve Hannahs booked ticket to Goa as she was due to get on another train for Goa that night to meet a friend. We were told by loads of different people that they could not help us so after ranting and raving for 2 hrs at a bunch of planks we gave up and headed for Coloba (the southern district of Mumbai where all the travellers go). We dumped our bags in a cafe while abs and i missioned of to go and bargain for a hotel for the next few nights. Sadly Mumbai is a hell of alot more expensive than anywhere else we have stayed and so we have a very run down hole which is costing us double what we have been paying and is flanked by prostitute dens and some serious slums. Hmmmmmm nice! Despite this we're really enjoying the area. Today we caught a boat out to Elephant Island where we were meant to go and see some caves but then we discovered it was 4 pounds entrance fee so we skipped that and climbed the mountain on the island where we got a stunning view of the Arabian Ocean from the top. We also met some Norwegian Lads who came and joined us on our wee trek.
I have now just finished a dinner of cheese and ham sandwiches and a cold beer for 30p (BARGAIN) and am about to crash as the girls and i have an early start tomorrow. We have been cast as extras in a bollywood feature film for which we get paid about 7 quid for the day. We have to pretend to be clubbers and are dancing next to the indian former miss world. It will be a very long, horrible day but the money pays for our train ticket to Goa (and for all the beer i drank last night, ooopppsss that took me well over my daily spending limit). After tomorrow we leave for Goa on a 11pm sleeper for a 12 hour train journey (fun) which should just get us in to Goa for sunbathing time (ahhh yyeeaahhh). Then I am stopping for 4 weeks. I have no intention on moving anywhere, i am tired and fed up of trains already. Which also means if any of you are tired or fed up of the cold that has now descended on the fab old great britain and you fancy some sunshine, then jump on a plane out here and come and join us for a few weeks, it is so cheap. Accomodation in a tree house or a beach hut is only a pound a night!
Anyhow i should go for now as i'm a bit sleepy after my big climb today and internet costs money but thanks for all the gosp that has been coming through and keep me up to date on things back home.
Hugs and Kisses
