Pondicherry And Loggers Do The World
Good Day to all your poor people suffering the freak weather back home,
Have had a few emails from you all reporting back on freak snow storms in dorset, devon and pompey. Whats that about?!?
You probably wont be best pleased to hear the weather is fantastic out here. So fantastic i think i am getting sun stroke a little too often, so i have taken to hiding under the shade of the palm trees.
We are now in Goa which i can only desctibe as paradise compared to what we have been through so far.
I think i last updated you all from Bombay where we were paying through the nose prices for everything. Our last few days were quite chilled out. I t met up with an old friend from London who i have not seen for 5 years and now lives in Bombay. He runs an orphanage out here and so we were talking about me doing some fundraising work while i'm here. I think i may have just offered to do a cycle ride from Bombay to Goa (a 600km journey - b*****!). So please do look out for the future email demanding some sponsorship money of you guys sometime soon. I think despite the fact i was trapped in another city i did really enjoy Bombay. Its a great city with loads going on and reflects the more werternised indian culture, however it does also have some of the biggest asian slums which can tear at your heart if your unfortunate enough to be walking in that area.
Anyway come friday we set of for the station to hop onto our overnight train to Goa, thankfully without having to get of and change anywhere this time. As the train pulled up we furiously looked around for the right carriage (i say furiously as an indian train can have like 80 carriages and no indication of carriage numbers). Sadly we had discovered we had booked ourselves into a 3 tier sleeper which meant we slept in cubicles with 6 bunks on each wall and no door to lock for privacy. However that was not the worst of it; as i started to fall asleep i felt something crawl across my face so i flicked my torch on to fins it was a cockroach. For the rest of the night i had to accept i was going to be sharing my buk with them and so i fell asleep watching them crawl from behind the bunks beds and scrabbling under the bed sheets of all the other sleeping people.
When i woke up, we were only an hour away from our stop and the scenery had changed from flat barren land to lush forest with coc*** palms and banana trees. An hour later i relaised we had missed our stop (oopppss) and so we jumped of at the next. We got down to the beach we were aiming for and for the first time we were greeted by the sight of travellers, hippies and bars lining the beach advertising the daily seafood catch. We trekked of along the beach and got some beach huts, dumped our sacks and legged it into the sea still fully clothed but very hot and sweaty. Since then when meeting new people they usually ask " Ah, are you the girls who ran into the sea fully clothed the other day?" Hmm got a bit of a name for ourselves. We have now met a some really nice people althoughthere are also a hell of alot of crusy old hippies down here who i think live here now to escape the reality they face bach home. There are alot of peole who i think are not to with it and just think us lot our strange with our midnight antics of swimming in the sea or wheel barrow races down the beach. We also now have Hannah back with us and her mate Alex too (by the way Ry, Alex says hi and your missing out although i think we rae driving him insane). The beach life is great and all but im getting itchy feet again and there is only so much you can do. I have managed to take up a few new hobbies to keep myself entertained - burying stray dogs in the sand, building giant sculptures of starfish, swimming, drinking 1 ltr bottles of beer at 30p, poi (look it up on the internet to find out what it is), oh and digeridoo lessons so i can now just about circular breath. I am now hoping to pick up a cheap didge so i can irritate some of the crusty hippies with all my crazy wee noises i can now make. The only thing that has upset me a bit since being here is the fact that all the beach shacks serve shark meat. I have taken to proclaiming loudly in whatever restaurant we're in that no one should eat it. I also had to try and educate an indian man on why he should not remove the starfish from the water yesterday, not that he seemed to care. Still trying to do my part to save the fish. Anyhow other than all this lounging around there is not much else to report. We are leaving to head further south tomorrow to another beach. We are all hiring mopeds for the next bit of this journey as it works out alot cheaper and more fun (dont freak mum, we'll be fine there is no traffic round here).
I'm missing you all lots still and hope that if any of you could get the opportunity to come visit then that would be great and would be nice to see you. For now i shall head of as we are of on a walk soon round the headland to find another beautiful beach.
Love to you all and keep sending your news
