It's Thursday evening here and time to write my second blog entry (mainly consisting of food!)...
I've now completed all of the training for week and they're confident for me to be let loose in the school.... scary! We've spent the week making lesson plans, doing arts and crafts, making flash cards and generally learning about the school format.
Yesterday lunchtime we were all taken for 'Dim Sum' which means "touch your heart", this is a traditional Cantonese style of eating which involves many small dishes which are shared amongst everyone. Traditionally families visit restarants for this on a Sunday lunchtime. The food was so good and really interesting although the pig's foot was a little too much for me!
In the evening, we all went out for dinner again (photos can be found in the album section!). We were sat at a huge table with a cooker in the centre. They brought us two dishes of stock; one hot and the other mild and all of the food we ordered came raw for us to cook ourselves. It was an interesting experience but great fun trying to work out what to do... it's safe to say we got some odd looks from the locals!
Tomorrow morning I am moving from Mong Kok to my new flat. In anticipation we went to buy a Granny Trolley to take to the supermarket to carry our shopping; this can be seen in the photos section modelled by my flatmate Lauren. We're also going to visit our schools tomorrow and so we're looking forward to meeting the Principal and Senior staff.
Hong Kong is fantastic so far, very cheap and its been so interesting fitting into the culture... starting to feel at home. For those asking I will message you all with my address tomorrow. Night all. x
