After a 15 hour journey from Saigon we finally arrived yesterday in Phu Quoc, an island off the south coast of Vietnam. The journey was Uneventful but tiring as we spent 9 hours of it on a sleeper bus without much sleep due to excessive use I the horn by the driver and generally some pretty bad and bumpy roads.
Phu Quoc itself is a stunning place though. The south of the island is covered with perfect beaches, although resorts are starting to fill up the pristine beaches, while the north is covered in dense protected jungle. The place we are staying is just outside the main town on the island and a 5 minute walk from the beach.
Yesterday was spent lounging on the beach before having a really good seafood dinner. Tonight we are going to try the food at the night market (see the picture) where tanks contain everything from sharks and stingrays to sea snakes and toads as well as all your standard lobsters, fish and prawns.
During the day today we are going to find a secluded beach and set up camp for the day. Tomorrow we are going to hire a motorbike and explore the island and on Thursday we have booked 3 dives with the same company I used in Nha Trang. Then on Friday we get a boat back to the mainland before the 3 hour journey over the border and into Cambodia.
