We finally made it to Cape Town late on Sunday night and settled in to Sunflower Stop Hostel which is in Green Point, right by the Cape Town Stadium and waterfront.
Monday the weather was due get hot so we decided that the best thing to do would obviously be to climb table
Mountain. Looking back this may have been a mistake. It only takes 2 hours to climb the mountain but when it's 28 degrees and you're in the direct sunlight it feels a bit hot! Never the less we made it to the top and had lunch sitting on the edge looking over Cape Town which was incredible. We decided to get the cable car down which was fun as it slowly rotates so you get to see everything as you slowly descend. Monday evening we did a short walk along the promenade after Sarahs 2 hour "nap" and enjoyed some well deserved beers at the hostels poolside bar.
Yesterday was another early start as we had bought tickets for the 9am ferry to Robben Island, which we almost missed as we got a bit lost in the harbour so ended up having to run! The tour was great and we got to take a bus tour of the island, see Mandelas cell, the courtyard where they all worked and more fantastic views of Cape Town as we headed out on the ferry. We then spent the afternoon wondering around the waterfront and going into all the local markets which were incredible. Foodies would have been in heaven in the waterfront food market as was Sarah when she found the chocolate muffin seller.
From the waterfront we headed to Long Street which is in the middle of Cape Town and is home to all the bars, restaurants and clubs. We found an amazing place called the Beer House and sat outside on their balcony over hanging the street New Orleans style and just people watched for hours before finding a nice Mexican restaurant for dinner!
Yesterday we decided to do a wine tour which proved to be a great decision! We had a really good group of guys and managed to go to 4 different wineries and stop for a fantastic lunch. We managed to sample about 25 different wines and some brandy to the mood was pretty good on the bus. It was defiantly up there as one of the highlights of the trip so far!
Today we are picking up a car and heading to cape point and to see the penguins. We are then going to spend some time on the beach before packing everything up and going for dinner. I can't believe we are leaving tomorrow. A month has gone so fast!
