9 hours on the bus later and we have arrived in the Eastern Cape at a town called East London. Last night we camped but it was due to rain today so the owner has taken pity on us and moved us into a double room at no extra cost! The place we are staying is called "SugarShack" and is about 40m from the sea. It also has a 20m high whale watching platform but no luck yet. We did however meet a guy who showed us pictures he had taken a few days earlier of an orca hunting dolphins 100m from the beach so we are keeping our eyes peeled!
Today was also a rather special day as Sarah and I both got to do something that was on both our bucket lists....play with lion cubs! For just over £8 the owner of the hostel drove us up to a place called the lion park, which was in fact more of a zoo, where he knew the owner who last month had received 3 lion cubs who are all now about 4 months old. We were allowed to play with them (and there 2 dogs) for almost 30 minutes and I have never seen Sarah, or anyone for that matter, smile so much for so long! It was an amazing experience which we will never forget!
The weather is not great here and is currently raining. Planning on spending the evening in the pub next door which is supposed to have fantastic ribs, they sell 2 tonnes a month, and enjoying the local beer.
We leave tomorrow night for Port Elizabeth so fingers crossed for better weather there! Tomorrow also marks the halfway point of our time in Africa!
