The Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England: Here are four new pictures, from Greenwich. The first one shows us standing on the grounds of the Royal Observatory (you can see the dome of the building in the background). The observatory houses a 28-inch (diameter) refracting telescope, which is one of the largest of its kind. Although photography is not allowed in the observatory, we managed to sneak this one (the second picture). In the third picture you can see us taking turns looking through a smaller and older refracting telescope, which is located in the Astronomer Royal's original house. The Royal Observatory was used to mark the prime meridian (zero degrees in longitude), which separates the eastern hemisphere of Earth from the western. In the last picture, one of us is standing on the east while the other is a whole world away on the west (the line on the wall behind us marks the exact location of the prime meridian). After returning to London, we toured Westminster and visited Harrods department store. Harrods is full of outrageously expensive stuff, but the Chocolate Bar is great! We got safely back inside the hostel just in time for the heavy rain. … more to come …
