We awoke this morning at the crack of dawn, rearing to go. We rushed around, organising the house for an extended departure, and packing the final gear in the car and caravan, and were finally ready to leave at 9.30. We said our final farewells to the guys that we're leaving behind to run the business, and I was touched to see a tear in the corner on Tony's eyes. He maintains it was just some dirt blew in there, but we all know the truth... Jacki actually did cry as we were leaving, but I think they were tears of joy that I'd be away for the next three months, and she could duck over to the club whenever she felt like it. Then, on top of that, 20 minutes down the road, I look over, and Jo is bawling her eyes out into a tissue. Of course, I immediately apologised for whatever I'd done (not a damn clue what it was), and she says it's just hit her that we're leaving home for three months. I wonder what she was thinking we were doing during the previous 12 months of planning??
Anyway, we are finally, officially "on the road"!! We followed the Golden Highway from home through Maitland and on to Denman. We had lunch in the pub there, which was awesome, (although way too large to be doing that regularly), and then through Merriwa, Dunedoo and Dubbo. The trip was largely uneventful, (other than the trucks going the opposite direction blowing my towing mirror back against the car constantly), but I'm getting frustrated at the lady on the gps telling me I'm breaking the speed limit. I'm not, it's just that she doesn't realise what the correct speed limit is!! She's a nag, it's only day 1 and she's going to find herself 'floating home'...
We arrived at 3.30pm, and completely forgot how we go about setting up the caravan, rolling out the awning etc, and we'd only just finished setting up by 4.30. (It never used to take an hour?) I'm exhausted, and don't know what we'll be like at the end of the trip, but we're here now, and over time, I'm sure we'll get better at it, especially when Jo figures out what she can do to help... (Don't tell her I said that.) So, plans for now, are dinner and bed, in that order! Tomorrow we can decide what we're going to do, and when we'll attack the zoo etc. BIG4 Dubbo Parklands is a lovely park, with all the facilities we'll ever need for our visit, although the concrete pad for our awning is very small, and the rest of the ground outside is red dirt. Its already through the van... (better than dog poo though, I reckon!) It's very busy, but it is still holidays, and the weather has been brilliant today. Hope it holds for our zoo day... The boys have been excellent, although Dylan was a little bit fragile this morning, but is fine now. We only did 420km today, but we were on the road for 6 hours, including lunch. The car is great, and I can honestly say I think it'll be keen to keep going long after we all wish we were back at home...(couldn't say that about a Toyota/Lexus)!! This will be the last job of the day, I'm going now to find the inside of my eyelids, so we'll catch up with you all again later...
Cheers, and thanks all for your best wishes.
