Our first night was spent in one of the worst, run down, drab, insect infested 'pousadas' you're ever likely to see. Oh yeah, and it smelled really bad too. I got a good night's sleep though, which was the main thing. So, the next day, Fred, Dave, Perry and I went searching for a decent place to stay, which we found in the form of another Albergue da Rosa.
Rosa was really nice too, and quite hot as well! Which is always a plus. We headed out for some lunch on the first day and while we were sitting down to eat at one of the restaurants on the main street into town, I noticed Liverpool on the tele, who were playing Toulouse in a Champions League qualifying game. So, while we ate a hearty meal of Carne Milenesa, with spaghetti and chips and drank some beer, we watched the game under cover, while outside it was raining a bit and quite windy too.
During my time travelling from beach to beach around the north-east coast of Brazil, it wasn't always sunny. Some days would be cloudy all day, but most of the time, it was okay. It was to be expected though, as it is winter here in Brazil right now.
Our time at the beach was spent sunbathing or playing a game we created, a type of volley-football. We marked out an area about 10 yards by 5 yards, with lines similar to that of a tennis court. You started off by volleying the ball into a particular front quarter of the opposition court, and they could let it bounce only that first time, and could take 3 touches between the two players to return it. We killed lots of time doing this, but it was great fun, most of the games going to the wire, with 11 points meaning a win.
At our pousada, we met some girls from Sau Paulo, who we hung out with for a bit, went to a club with one night, and the beach the next. They were nice but they could only stay a couple of days before they had to leave for home.
We also played some drinking games with them, usually King's Cup, and when we weren't drinking, a few other card games to keep us occupied.
The town of Porto do Galinhas is quite touristic, with many tourist shops and restaurants. The beaches were nice and wide though and further round the coast, the shoreline was pretty.
When we left Porto do Galinhas, we all took a night bus to a place called Santa Clara de Ferriera, and from there, the other guys went to Salvador to travel onto their respective destinations, and I took a bus bound for Lencois. It is 6 hours inland from Salvador and the diamond region, which I had heard was really beautiful, and some good hikes to be done.
So, after saying my goodbye's, I set off for Lencois.
