I had been told of a decent place to stay in Canoa, which was in my guide book, so had already decided on that one. I was told there´d be a Dutch guy with mad white hair waiting for the bus to come in, to pull in the clients. Sure enough, as I stepped off, there he was. So, in his buggy, we drove to his hostel, Pousada Europa.
To get to my room, you had to climb some funky wooden stairs, and once there, I had a fantastic view of the sea. It really was gorgeous, so following my hot bus ride, I opened the door and the windows, and let the cool sea breeze in to my new airy room.
Although it was a nice place to stay, there weren´t really any choice places to meet other travellers. I did meet a Dutch girl, Karin, but she was leaving that evening to my next scheduled destination, Praia do Pipa. We chatted for a while, and I found out she taught SCUBA diving on Koh Tao in Thailand. She had worked for some time at Asia Divers, where I took my course, and knew my instructors too!
Canoa Quebrada was a cool little town, but I got the feeling not a whole lot was going on. The main street that linked beaches had various restaurants and boutiques. I decided to get a hair cut at the local barbers, which didn´t turn out to be a disaster as one dreads!
I spent a fair amount of time sunning myself on the beaches, being careful all the while to apply the sunscreen. I must have missed a bit on my back though, as later that day, I had a rather red mark on my back, in that hard-to-reach area. I didn´t feel comfortable going up to a random stranger on the beach and asking them to rub cream into my back.
After one full day of sun on the beach, I decided to leave the next day for Pipa. It was a good job I had all my stuff ready early in preparation, as the last bus I needed if I was going to get to Pipa that day, left within the hour. After changing in a small town called Aracati, I left for the city of Natal. I had decided not to spend any time there, as I just wanted some time in smaller places from then on. So, after somehow finding the right bus in Natal bus station, I left for my next destination, Pipa.
