14th January; after a morning catching up with emails, blog, etc we drove to the Tierra del Fuego National Park for a walk along the Beagle Channel. The weather has turned cold with a strong westerly wind; force 6 to 8. Slow 2 hour walk consolidating our knowledge of the area, flora, fauna and history. One side of the Beagle Channel is Argentina [north] and one Chile [south]. The flag on the island is statement of national territory. On our way back we called into the yacht club, this caters for long distant yachts but they did have 6 Optimist dinghies. Optimists are the dinghies our children learnt to sail in; these in Ushuaia must be the most southerly Optimists in the world. We talked with an Australian long distant sailor and his wife. They were on their way to Antartica and South Georgia; not our type of sailing! In the evening we had, in our opinion, the best and most expensive meal in Argentina. £33 in the award winning Kaupe Restaurant. Tasting menu consisted of cold Patagonian crab, hot Patagonian crab with spinich, sea bass, lemon souffle, wine, pudding wine, coffee and champagne.
