Happy Birthday Jasmine!!! 14 years old and all she wanted to do for her birthday was shop on Oxford Street, a girl of my own heart really!
So after I woke up from the longest sleep I'd had since arriving, 11pm - 7 am without waking all through the night, I head down to see a rather excited Jas and all her gifts. Jen and Mike organise a special birthday breakfast and then we head off to Oxford Street.
When we arrive we take a quick detour around the corner on Regent Street, starting to sound like a Monopoly Board now, to go to a shop named Hamleys. It's a 5 level toy store that employs only people with an ability to maintain a childlike persona. Most of them were dressed as pirates and spoke to you as though they were pirates. You walk through a wall of bubbles, which I thought was just a lil but awesome, just to get in the building.
We make our way up to the 5th floor to find presents for the "twingers", more on them tomorrow, and we see at the top of the stairs, Princes Harry, Charles and Will and Kate the Duchess of Cambridge built in Lego. Freaking awesome! As I'm walking around I see Lego soldiers and then, THE QUEEN!
After finding gifts for the Twingers we begin the epic journey down Oxford Street. There were thousands of people and its kind of like you instantly become invisible because everyone gets on a path and sticks to it, if your in the way, you're getting hurt! I quickly learnt to walk with my elbows out.
We stopped in pretty much every shop a teenage girl be expected to want to go to and she managed to finish the day with her arms full of bits and pieces, with some money to spare.
I managed to check out a couple of stores but was surprised that things actually cost more than in Australia all across the board. The 4 level Nike store was pretty cool, although there was only one level that had women's things. It was cool to see the new stuff before it comes to Australia but it was just so much more expensive. Luckily because my suitcase is pretty full already!
We end the day with Chinese take out for dinner, Jas' birthday choice, and I'm introduced to prawn toast, chicken that looked like worms, crunchy seaweed and duck pancakes. All of which tasted really good!
Jas had a great day for her birthday and I managed to pick up a few bits and pieces for my three babies too, very successful day all round.
