Well its our last day in Munich today, which makes me a little depressed, as Munich, and Germany as a whole, has been an awesome and amazing place. We arrived here on Sunday arvo, and wasted no time in heading to one of Munich´s famed beer gardens with two people with we met on the Busabout bus. They were really nice, and we enjoyed a few steins with them over the course of the evening. The beer gardens are amazing, they are all very picturesque, and the german beer and food is amazing, everything from pork knuckles, to roasted chicken, to bratwurst and sausages, and of course schnitzel. Combined with the beer, I think I´ve left Germany a couple of kilos heavier!!!
We continued exploring Munich´s beer gardens on Monday, including the famous Hofbrauhaus, though this was a lot more tame of a day, just a couple of beers before retreating back to the hotel as Malcolm was departing for Croatia early on Tuesday. On Tuesday, I attended a guided walking tour of Munich with our 2 new found Australian friends from the bus. The tour was great, we learnt alot about Bavarian history, Nazi Party history, and of course, beer history!!! But in all seriousness it was thoroughly enjoyable, a change from the standard church and museum tours we have been subjected to in the past few cities.
After the tour, Ryan and I reacquainted ourselves with Munich´s beer halls. We attended a really cool, authentic Munich beer hall before moving to what we thought was going to be another beer hall. Turns out, our traveller´s guide got it wrong. This place wasn´t a beer hall, but rather a upmarket bar in a prominent gay area!!! We didn´t stay here too long before meeting up with our bus friends for a few more beers at another beer hall, then returning to their hostel for the bar´s happy hour (12 midnight seems like a good time for happy hour doesnt it?). We had a few more drinks here before heading to bed.
Wednesday saw us feeling a little sorry for ourselves, so we spent the day sleeping in, before doing some shopping in the city centre. We had another early night, the we woke up early this morning and got some things done. We did some more washing, before getting haircuts (if I was able to post some photos up you would see how overdue I was for a haircut!!) and doing some more shopping. We are about to grab dinner now, and are headed back to the hotel to try a couple of the wines we bought on our Austrian wine tour.
We have an early start tomorrow, catching a flight to Split in Croatia where we meet up with Malcolm, who has been with family for the past few days. Our Croatian Islands sail tour then begins on Saturday which should be great, though we hear the weather at the moment there, much like Munich, is a little inclement which is a shame.
Hope all is well back home. Might not be able to post another blog for at least aweek or so as we probably wont have internet access while we are sailing along Croatia :) But don´t panic Mum, you´ll hear from me soon enough!!!
