Ok so here we are again. Left Split on Saturday 14th JUne, and headed for Athens. Unfortunately the cheapest flight we could get was a connecting flight via London. A long way to travel for such a short distance!!! The flights were fine and we arrived in Athens about 10pm before making the 1 hour bus ride to Piraeus. Piraeus is the major harbour in Greece, and was where we departed from early the next morning for Mykonos island.
To be honest, our initial impressions of Greece were not great. The people were rude, the taxi drivers went out of their way to rip you off, and quite frankly, the place was not much to the eye. Our opinions changed however once we left for the islands! We left at 6am on sunday morning (15th June) on a huge ferry. And I mean huge!! These things are massive, and interestingly enough all the passenger ferries and katamarans are built by Austal ships in W.A.
Anyway, we arrived in Mykonos and spent 2 nights there before spending 2 nights each on the islands of Paros, Santorini and Ios. I wont go into too much detail of what each day entailed, but basically we were on a guided tour of 13 people. We were taken around each island, lazed on the beach, went out for dinner each night before partying in one of the many bars on these islands. The islands are all very beautiful, and the weather was good but bloody hot!!! Other highlights included an all day boat cruise around Paros and its surrounding islands, and having a sunset picnic at the highest point of Santorini.
Anyway, the tour ended on Monday (23rd June) where we returned to Piraeus and spent the night before flying to Venice on Tuesday. Should have a post from Venice up very soon. :)
