Well its been a week since the previous entry, and man its been a hell of a week. Im actually in the Greek Islands at the moment, but as I havent updated for so long Im putting separate entries up for Croatia and the Greek Islands.
We arrived in Split on Friday 6th June, after flying from Munich via Zagreb. We spent the night in Split, just going out for a meal before Mark, Ryan's cousin, met up with us. It wasan early start on the saturday as we had to check into the boat for the Croatia Sail by 11. The boat was pretty cool, though the cabins were quite small and the "ensuites" left a bit to be desired!!! It wasn't to matter though, as the next 7 days on the cruise were fantastic. We headed firstly too Makarska, a seaside town on the Croatian coast. As with most nights on the tour, we headed out as a group for dinner (there were 30 of us on the boat and as the week progressed got to know each other really well and had a great time) before hitting the local bars and nightlife. The next morning we headed to Mlijet, a very small island of the coast. We had a look around, but spent the night on the boat as the cook had prepared a special croatian meat barbeque which was amazing. Actually we were fed pretty well on the boat, getting breakfast every morning and a 3 course meal for lunch every day!
We left Mlijet on Monday morning for Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is a really cool city, very picturesque and with a lot of history. We did the walk along the walls of Dubrovnik, which were built 1000 years ago to surround the city and protect from Roman invasion. They protrude high above the city, so we were able to get some great views and photos.
Tuesday we left Dubrovnik and headed for the island of Korcula. Korcula is anothe small island, but beautiful nonetheless. We had dinner on the island but t was a quiet night all round. Wednesday saw us headed for Hvar, the biggest and best of the Croatian islands. The tour guide organised a picnic for us for dinner on the harbour, before we did a bit of a bar crawl. Again, another great night out with all the cool people on the boat.
Thursday was spent on the island of Omis. Again another small island, but we spent the afternoon looking around before watching Croatia beat Germany in a Euro Cup soccer match. We watched it in a bar, and the atmosphere was amazing. People spilled out onto the streets blowing horns, setting off flares, doing burnouts in cars, it was complete madness!!! We then headed back to the boat where we had a pirates and sailors themed party in the ship's bar, with everyone dressing up and looking like idiots!!! Friday we sailed back to Split where we had dinner in town and a few quite cocktails before saying goodbye to the other people on the tour. We checked out early on Saturday morning and headed to the airport as we had a loong day of flying ahead. We had to fly from Split to London and then from London to Athens!!!! We arrived in Athens around 10pm (Sat 14th June) before heading to Piraeus, about an hour from Athens, where our Greek Islands tour begins on Sunday.
Anyway a hell of a week! I don't think I could do justice to the Croatia Sail Tour by trying to describe it. Can't wait to get back there and do it again!!!
