We're parked by a river in the company of three other vans.
Our first impression was of a seedy, run-down impoverished sort of town, ok for an overnight stop but not much else. We were quite wrong. A five minute stroll along the river bank and into an attractive town, lots of shops, bars, restaurants and parks. What's more, free WiFi in most of the town centers' open spaces.
We've visited 3 bars today. The first, large and on a main square was fine. Good value, nothing remarkable. The second, on our second visit of the day to town was to a small bar, of which there are dozens. Not so good. Tiny glasses of red wine at least a third less than locals were getting and an unsmiling 'welcome' from the proprietor. Lucky with the third. Two decent sized glasses of red wine for €1.40, €0.20 less than bar number two plus a cheerful welcome. We've seen people drinking what looks like a large sweet sherry on ice. It turns out to be a non-alcoholic drink called Mosto Aloa. Sweetish and for me with a hint of apples, despite having a bunch of grapes on the label. Anyway, enjoyable and only 70 cents. And you get an olive!.
3rd April. Went to sleep to the sound of rain on our tin roof. We've now had lunch and still it's raining. Quite a novelty. We now have very limited TV reception. Recently, BBC2 has only been available as BBC2 Wales. Now that has gone too. The only watchable channel seems to be ITV3. Satellite radio is fine so we listen mainly to R4 and R4 Extra. We have DVDs too and are now on the 4th episode, Season 1 of Mad Men. Despite the wonderful reviews cannot say we have started to appreciate it yet.
