24th April 2006 - Day 24
What another long - hot day - left Chandigarh heading for Rishikesh. The last two days have been very tiring and very frustrating - bit fed up of travelling. So decided to stay in Rishikesh for a few days - to relax and de-stress (for me I think mostly). Paul seems to take everything with a pinch of salt and thats why I love him, he settles me down when I'm stressed. Rishikesh seems very touristy and was very crowded when we arrived - was nice just to sit in our hostel room and just be on our own. India is a tough place to travel in - everything is so full on and so intense - the people, the places you visit and the sheer size of India to explore in just six weeks is exhausting.
25th April 2006 - Day 25
Woke up after a very relaxing sleep, went for a stroll along the side streets and found a lovely, deserted part of the beautiful Rishikesh - rolling water and peaceful tranquility. We came across an English lady who said she was looking for the Beatles Ashram - we didn't know where it was but decided to look around for it aswell!!! We managed to find it. The Ashram was closed due to a dispute between the Ashram owner and the government . We managed to pay the gatekeeper to have a look around - we were a little scared as there were lots of big monkeys in the trees and the place seemed very eerie - all the building were in need of repair. Had lunch at the Ganga field, a local cafe, which was in a deserted part of the city - lovely and peaceful. Spent the rest of the day strolling around and relaxing outside our room in the shade. Went for a walk in the evening and stumbled across a festival, which had just began on one of the Ghats. It was amazing - it seemed like a coming of age or confirmation of faith ceremony.
26th April 2006 - Day 26
Caught a rickshaw to the train station to buy a ticket to Varanasi, the office was busy as usual. We decided I should purchase the ticket as women can push to the front of the queue. We were told that we couldn't purchase a ticket for another 3 days - which was not our plan at all!!! Left the ticket office angry and hot and bothered, we tried a few tour operators to buy a ticket but this was unsuccessful. We finally managed to find a helpful tour operator so decided to book a train ticket to Varanasi and then another onto Mumbai, going onto Goa. Spent the rest of the day - napping and keeping out of the heat.
27th April 2006 - Day 27
Headed off from our hotel to explore further afield. Walked to a different part of Rishikesh - Lakshmanjhula, further north along the Ganges. We decided to stop for a rest in the Moonview cafe, which was a cool place to chill, although still pretty hot!! Saw some people white waterafting down the river - but was maybe a little calm to call it white waterafting.
