Hello one and all again
Well, on our last posted entry, we were about to start working with the kids, since then we have had two weeks of afternoon classes. For one of those weeks we were each taking our own class and having to lesson plan each day. We have survived so far, though the kids can be quite testing (especially in Patrick´s older class), but in general they are very sweet. We are starting full days with our morning and afternoon class this week, but the blow is cushioned by the fact we have today off, and Tuesday and Wednesday we will be making and flying kites for the "Day of The Dead" festival. Unfortunatly these full days do mean we have to be up for 6:20am, and the 1 year old twins we live with don´t make sleeping very easy.
We have found time for fun to at the weekends, and last week we visited the Chichicastenango Markets (spelling?), which were alot of fun. Though probably the best bit so far was yesterdays trip to the Pacaya volcano (pictures will be posted shortly). The volcano is active and emits a constant plume of smoke, visible from Antigua. The highlight though was when we got to walk on the solidified lava ( cruncing and cracking beneath our feet ) in search of a lava flow. We were blown away when we finally found some, it was (obviously) extremly hot, though we were able to get within about a metre of it. It moved alot quicker than we thought it would, and it was quite hypnotic. There was one more moment of drama on the walk back though, when one of our friends from the project, had the solidified lava benath her, give way, and she fell all the way down to her shoulders into a small crevass. We were able to grab her and pull her out and she was only left with a few small cuts and bruises. She was fine, though we all walked extremly carefully on the way back. Mums and Dads don´t worry, we are all safe and sound now, and it´s too late to worry about it now anyway
Thats all for now, we´ve got the wedding to go to on Saturday and we´ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the messages and we hope you are all well
Love
Kat and Patrick
