Travels In Central & South America
Hi Everyone,
We are finally back on the road again after a great 6 months working in Ecuador. Sorry we didnt write during out time there, but theres only so much you can say about work, even though it is with kids in Ecuador. so we thought we`d wait till the end to tell you all about it.
We were both placed at different schools, Patricks was called Larcacunga, a gorgeous place in the hills around Otavalo, where we lived, and Kats school was called Huayrapungo, up in the middle of nowhere on an extinct Volcano called Cotacachi.
We were there not only to teach the kids, but to support the Volunteers, keep a good relationship going with the communitiesand teachers (each school has 1 teacher for all 7 grades!) and making sure everything was ok in the schools.
We had so much fun working there. Ecuador and Otavalo are both such beautiful places, we couldnt have asked for a better place to live together. And as we were in separate schools a lot of our experiences were different, so for all you guys at home, you dont have to put up with too much of the same story told 2 ways!!
We will put some photos up soon, but theres not really much more we can tell you guys.
We have now moved on from Ecuador and we have 3 months or so to travel Peru and Bolivia before coming home to see you all for Christmas ( flights are booked for the 18th of December!! ). So far we have wandered a couple of colonial towns and sat on the last beach of the trip. We`ve also seen some gorgeous ruins from the Moche tribe who lived in the desert before the Incas got there. They moved out before the Incas arrived as they had a bit of a tiff with the local god of the area over a bit of bad weather, packed up, b*****ed off and weren`t seen again. This was all told to us in Spanish so it may not be the most accurate account ever, but we think thats the gist of it pretty much.
The ruins were beautiful and some of them were really well preserved, thanks to the desert conditions.
We are moving on down the coast and heading inwards to the mountains next, fingers crossed for good weather.
Hope everyones well and had a good summer (was there a summer?)
We`ll be sending another one out soon.
Take care
Love
Kat and Patrick
