Hello.
So I'm back in Masindi again. But only for a few days, because on monday Thea and I are going to meet the new volunteers that are coming to Uganda. Let me just start by saying that I'm fine again! As long as I keep eating my pills (which are seethrough pink and white and filled with tiny small balls...) and don't eat too much matoke or fruit I will continue to be ok!
As I wrote we came back to Masindi last night and even though we were only away for two days it feels as if we have been away for a week or so and it's very nice to be back home in familiar surroundings! We had such a nice weekend. Friday, the two girls who are staying 20 km outside Masindi came into town and we spent the whole day pretending to be luxury-mzungues by the pool. Nearby Masindi (45 min on Boda Boda) lays Uganda's biggest sugar factory. It's Huge, it's like a small society inside society. And the factory has so many employees that they have created a club or something for them. And one of the things the employees can enjoy if they are members is a pool. But Africans are not that interested in lying in the sun by the pool, but we are!
On sunday Laura, a girl living in Hoima district, came to visit us and very early monday morning we left for Murchison Falls National Park. Thea and I have been so lucky to run into a Danish man, a former Development Worker for MS Uganda, who plans tourist trips for Danes now. He gave us a ride from K'la to Masindi last monday and we had a chance to talk. It turns out that a group of people are coming down to Uganda this week and that they were going to the park monday and tuesday AND he had plenty of room for us!
So we went with him and the danish group and had a great time and saved a whole lot of money!!!
We were supposed to meet with him in a town called Pakwach (which is halfway to Arua, on the northern side of the park) and then join them on a visit to a small village where they build a lot of the crafts that are sold to tourists in eg. K'la. After that we drove into the park. Thea, Laura and I stood on the back of the pick up truck for most of the drive around in the park, we had such a good time and saw many animals. Giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, monkeys and so on but no lions... We spent the night at a camp inside the park and yeaterday (which turned out to be the only day we have experienced with rain the WHOLE day) we sailed on the Nile to the Murchison Falls. Thea, Laura and I had planned to hike up to the top of the mountains and the guides had arranged for a ranger to meet us where the boat dropped us but when we reached he was not there. The guides on the boat just said 'oh it's okay, you can go it's not dangerous'. We just stood there at the foot of a very steep cliff in pouring rain and watched the boat sail away and leaving us completely alone with a sign saying 'Beware of the croccodiles'! Nice!
But we made and the walk was so amazingly beautiful, even in the rain!
Next week we are going to Jinja monday to wednesday and then we are probably going to k'la or somewhere else, because the school is closed. It's the easter holidays and we want to find something fun to do.
oh, I think that is all for now...
ps. grazie per tutti i mesaggi!! Bacioni
