Hi all again,
It's my last day in Buenos Aires today and so I'm going to make the most of it - unless I'm needing a yellow fever jab in which case i will be in the hospital. It's so stupid I don't need it for the tour at all but it might be a requirement to get into the USA.
Yesterday, I went to the cemertory at Recoleta. It has to be one of the most fascinating places I have ever been to. It's where all the rich people/families are buried. But it's not your usual gravestone job, these families all have proper tombs. The whole ceremtory is made up of these little roads which on either side have tombs. I saw Eva Peron's tomb and there are also some other famous people buried there. Some of these tombs though are so over the top and elaborate it was amazing. I could have spent ages there just walking round but it is a graveyard and I didn't particulary want to be wondering around too long.
I then stupidedly thought I could just walk by way along to Palermo and go to the zoo. So I walked and walked and walked and walked for ages, it turned out to be basically the equivalent of my house to Kingston. Then the stupid zoo was shut on a Monday - I was not happy.
Anyway, I got the subway back to the centre of town and thought I deserved some well earned retail therapy but as cheap as things are, I'm not buying things because of the whole luggage situation.
After that I went down to the new Port. I think it's called Port Derrego (I don't have my book in front me). This is the newest port in Buenos Aires and the design was apparently based on the Liverpool Albert Dock. It was very generic and my impression of it was that you could kinda be anywhere in the world. It was the usual nice restaurants, office blocks, expensive apartments kind of thing. It's also now the most expensive place to live in Buenos Aires so that kind of says it all.
In the evening I met the other people on my tour, there are six of us and everyone seems nice enough. They are 2 australians and one new zealander and they are very much your hard core traveller, they look like travellers, dress like travellers. And then there are two English girls around my age who are on the last leg of their world tour. They seem nice as well. I do feel a bit like i stand out as the city girl travelling out of her comfort zone but I'm just getting on with it. After our meeting explaining everything, we went out for dinner and I had an Argentine steak which I only had because you kinda heve to when you are here but I didnt enjoy it all that much, to be honest there was a accompanying side salad and I enjoyed that far more.
Anyway, better get on with things now. I think the plan today is to head to the zoo.
A.Didi - no they are not my pictures. I will try and get some up soon.
Much love,
P.xx.
