Hi all,
Apologies for the slightly random picture, there isnt oen for Uruguay. Anyway, we left Buenos Aires on Wednesday which i was slightly sad about i had grown to love the city so much.
We left early in the morning and took a hour boat ride across the sea to Colonia which is tiny little town. It was pretty but there wasnt much to do and after the city i found it pretty boring.
We are now in Montevideo which is a little more edgey than BA. It's not as amazing as BA so am not so snap happy. Our hotel is ok but feels like we have gone back a good few years. I'm trying to keep open minded but i did fall in love with BA and here is not quite the same. Tonight the group of us are sampling some of the Uruguian night life which should be interesting. Our gap leader says it's all perfectly safe and she is coming out with us. The bars are literally opposite our hotel so we just have to walk across the road to get back.
One thing I am finding about S America is the food. Firstly, they have no idea how to cook pizza or pasta, a recent example was Laura, a girl in the group, ordered ravioli so it got bought to the table and it had two pieces of steak on top of it - WHY?!? Everythingis massive, I never finish a meal and it is all so meat-y! Everything has meat in it which is fine if you are a big meat eater. Oh and pizza wise, I tried to order a pizza the other day and you could either have a pizza with tomato and other tóppings or a pizza with mozzarella and other toppings but not a magerita. It's so silly. So i am longing for North America when hopefully I can get a semi normal pasta or pizza. I am trying to eat and sample local dishes but there is only so much meat you can eat.
So sorry I havent got as much to say but not much to tell here.
Much love,
P.xx.
