Wednesday 4th April
Journal entry brought to you by Tami (wet)
Today was a WICKEDCOOL day. We went to Wet n? Wild theme park just outside Brisbane. We met up with Luke and Holly at the park, and oh my GOODNESS we had SO much fun! I love waterparks!!!!
There were so many awesome rides, lots of inflatable raft style rides, floating donut rides, awesome drop slides?? There was this one ride where you were dropped into what looked like a massive ice cream cone or megaphone and you swirled around SO fast, I thought we were going to fall off our blow up seat thing, and I NEVER get scared on rides, so that gave me a MEGA adrenaline boost!
We had such a funny day, the highlight of which had to be on this slide where Holly, Soph and I were racing. We set off on the whistle. I got about two thirds of the way down and I saw this kid on the slide who had gone down before me. I'm looking at him thinking, has he stopped? But he hasn't, he's just moving REALLY slowly. I then think fast and try to grab onto the sides of the slide to slow me down, but the water is gushing really fast and there's nothing to grip. Just at that moment there's a dip in the tube and I speed up majorly. I'm now thinking, ?What do I do?!?. I yell "Look out!" And he turns round and goes "AAAH". I'm now drawing close and I'm thinking the only thing I can do to avoid going straight into his back is to open my legs (which sounds SO wrong) so I spread them and kind of pick this boy up as I'm moving so I don't squash him, he was tiny, must have been about 6. By this time we're nearing the end of the slide and I'm thinking if we both come out of this slide together I'm going to land on top of this poor child and break him. So at the end I throw him forward into the water and stand up. Sophie is standing there looking at me like "What bloody hell were you doing with a kid on your lap?!!" It was SOOOOO funny. He was okay I think. His dad went a bit mental at the lifeguard. It was really amusing though. Then came endless jokes about how Tami picks up children etc from the other three, but it was a timeless experience, ha ha.
We got back to the hostel and decided to prepare for the ?Big Backpackers Night Out? which involved 8 hostels grouping together to go on one big spree across town. At 9.00pm we got onto a private bus that was absolutely crammed with people and set off to the first of four bars we would be going to that night. It was called Shooters, and as well as playing AWESOME music, they held a dirty dancing competition and everyone on the crawl got a free drink?.meaning Sophie got two and I had to pay an extortionate $4.50 for a bottle of water. After about 45 minutes we moved onto a place that neither Sophie or I can remember the name of. I think it began with M. Anyhoo we went in there and the music wasn?t as good, and they didn?t sell bottled water! What?s with that?!! So anyway we stayed there for about another 45, then headed onto a place called Shack, which was the BEST place I?ve been out in Australia! I went a bit mental actually. Luke said it was a good thing I wasn?t drinking because I seemed to be on speed anyway and I would most likely be scary if I was drunk. Ha. Honestly though, they played such good music, I just could NOT stop dancing. WOOOOO!!
The next place we went to was rubbish so after about an hour Luke and I decided we were going to leave because we wanted the night to end on a high, so we began going for a wander, then he walked me back to the hostel and we had a deep and meaningful natter about how much we wanted to go bowling. Sophie meanwhile was with a big bunch of people from the hostel and she went for a walk on the beach with Ashley, and then they returned to the hostel in the late early hours. A very very VERY good day and night combination.
