Byron Bay is bigger than I expected. That is not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just a bit surprised. It is a nice place though with a great mix of people.
We stayed right by the beach which was great because there was no pool at the caravan park. We had a great time with the kids playing on the beach, building sandcastles and swimming. Well, Patrik and I build the sandcastles and Max and Elise jump on them destroying our creations.
We only had two days in Byron Bay and one of those days the weather wasn't very good so we went for a drive inland through Lismore and onto Nimbin. Nimbin is a sad place. Saw a lot of sad looking people, some who were living in their cars. The main street looks fun and quirky but looking beyond that, it's just sad.
After lunch the weather got better again and the sun was shining. Which was great for visiting the lighthouse when we got back to Byron. The views were great from the top and we walked out to Australia's most easterly point. We saw dolphins surfing the waves down below and maybe a shark too.
On the last night we celebrated our 8 year anniversary of being together by going to a nice little restaurant right next to the caravan park. It had a great view over the ocean which we could see for about half an hour before it got dark. Queensland don't like day light saving either. The food and service was great, the kids were well behaved so it was a great night.
