Friday 9 November. 13c Sunny with cloudy patches.
We woke rather early this morning since we were all in bed well before 9pm last night.
Have just been to breakfast which was this amazing buffet. Lots of Chinese dishes like sushi, salmon, noodles and something called "beans fell through" which we think was lost in translation because it was actually tofu in broth, hahaha….
Ok, so we're back in the room and are just waiting for 8am when we'll go to the lobby to meet with our guide and other travelers. Today we visit Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City then we experience a Chinese Tea Ceremony. All sounds exciting and we're looking forward to it.
Tiananmen Square was huge as you would expect, there were lots of military guarding the Chinese flag and Asian people were taking my picture with them in it which was quite amusing, l actually felt like a celebrity! The Forbidden City was massive….l think it took a couple of hours to go through it and that was the express tour! Then we went to lunch at one of the local restaurants which was nice and after that we went to the Chinese Tea Ceremony which was interesting and educational…more on that later…Mum ended up buying about $350 in tea and Deb did the same! From there we went to an acrobatic show which defied anything and everything and then dinner…..more Chinese food. Tastes very different to Chinese take away at home….much more distinct flavours and who knows what we're eating! While Mum and Deb went back to the hotel for a relaxing massage, me and 2 others, Betty and Claudia, went to an optician where l bought 2 pair of reading glasses for Aus$388 and 2 pair of sunnies for Aus$76..bargain of the century as l paid $360 for one pair of reading glasses in Australia a couple of years ago. On the way back to the hotel Betty, Claudia and l decided we'd meet up at the bar and have a nightcap. We were joined by another member of the tour, Rachel, and later Mum dropped in so it was a girls night out. We decided that we'd do the same tomorrow night and the night after that and the night after that…..Yaaaa.....new friends to drink with....cheers to that!
Ok…it's bedtime for me…l'll probably elaborate on this a bit more tomorrow but right now l'm sleepy.
Back in Oz and l don't think there's anymore to add. Not sure what else l was gonna say about the Chinese Tea Ceremony 'cept to say that most of the teas we tasted were really nice and had some sort of health benefit. Maybe that's why Mum and Deb bought so much.
